WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR PSYCH-EDUCATIONAL EVALUATION

Every evaluation is individualized to fit the specific needs of each person, however, most evaluations will include these elements:

1.) Free Consultation:

A brief phone interview and discussion will be conducted to determine the need for an evaluation and discuss your general concerns. If you elect to proceed with the evaluation process, the Formal Intake Interview will be scheduled.

2.) Formal Intake Interview:

After our initial consultation, a comprehensive intake interview will be conducted with the parent or individual being evaluated. A detailed medical and developmental history will be obtained. We will discuss your specific concerns, and any strategies that you may have already attempted. This information will be helpful in determining the scope and type of evaluation needed to best answer your referral question and provide the most useful recommendations. Interviews may be conducted face-to-face or via video conference applications. For a general outline of specific evaluation types and possible diagnosis/classifications, please view our Evaluations tab.

3.) Evaluation:

During the evaluation, a variety of assessments instruments may be administered to best develop a complete profile of the person being evaluated. During evaluations, interviews are sometimes conducted to gage internal and external emotions or behaviors. The individual’s behavior and activity level will be observed and recorded. Administration will be conducted through the use of electronic devices including iPads and Laptops, as well as paper-pencil and book based assessments. Each evaluation session typically ranges from one to four hours, with several short breaks, depending on the individual's energy level.

4.) Scoring and Interpretation:

After all evaluation components are complete and other relevant information has been obtained, the Evaluator will score, interpret, and integrate the information into a detailed and comprehensive written report. The report will include background information provided during the intake interview. Additionally the report will include results and test scores that will provide information about learning style, IQ level, academic ability, adaptive behavior and/or social/emotional/behavioral skill set. Results will also be used to answer the referral questions and provide classifications or diagnosis if appropriate. Finally, the report will also include tailored recommendations to help the individual become more successful in life and learning.

5.) Report and Feedback Discussion:

After evaluating and completing the report, the Evaluator will meet with the individual and/or parent to review the evaluation results, go over the written report, and discuss any recommendations. At that meeting the parent or individual will be provided with their copy of the report, and will have the option to share results with the child’s school, doctor, services provider, or any other person involved in the care and education of the student.
