Autism Spectrum Disorder Evaluation

Autism Spectrum Disorder Evaluation: Autism can presents in a wide range of behaviors and characteristics. Those with Autism may interact and communicate in a way that is hard for parents to understand. Highly fixated interests, stereotyped and repetitive behaviors, hypersensitivity to sensory input are common characteristics of Autism and will be assessed in this evaluation. An evaluation will aid in determining the presence of Autism and the particular skill set of the individual. This information is important in treatment development for services in and out of the school setting. Each evaluation is highly tailored to the needs of the individual being assessed. Various aspects of the evaluation may be omitted or added to best fit the needs of the individual.

Areas typically assessed:

1. IQ and Cognitive -  will provide information regarding various cognitive strengths and weaknesses. This information is critical so that instruction can be presented in a way that best matches the individual's cognitive strengths, leading to better retention of information.

2. In-depth Interviews and Parent Rating Scales - information will be collected to gage the presence and severity of Autism Spectrum Disorder characteristics. This information will be used to determine if a standardized/formal Autism evaluation instrument is needed.

3. Autism Evaluation - a standardized/formal Autism evaluation will be conducted to provide or rule out an official diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Particular strengths will be highlighted as well as areas of weaknesses intended to direct treatment recommendations. Depending on the age of the individual, assessments may appear as games/activities with some conversation or mostly conversation and some activities.
